Upin paints large scale on panels that interlock together. Each panel is a painting unto itself, but Upin combines different paintings to create further narratives. Upin also employs a technique that he has developed using roofing tar, paint, and recycled paper to achieve a "bleed through" effect that is truely unique. The subject matter in his work ranges from personal reflections to highly charged social and political imagery. Not since painter David Salle has an artist used the juxtaposition of images with such power as Upin. These are large, colorful, and above all, masterfully rendered images.
